Actions Speak Louder Than Words: Spotlight With Guild Mortgage

Okay, one more time, would you like to re-read this headline?

What does “actions speak louder than words” mean to you? “To Guild Mortgage, it means dedication; to following through on what we are speaking; being devoted to something or someone,” explains Paige Slawson, branch admin. “We take the meaning of dedication to an entirely new level. Yes, we are extremely dedicated within our office, but outside of our office, we match that dedication by giving back to our community.”

When Guild Mortgage says they are dedicated to community, they mean it. Volunteering at Meals on Wheels for years now plays a big role in Chris Bucalo's work week. “He is not only dedicated to volunteering his time to this great organization, he thoroughly enjoys it,” shares Slawson. “You can see the joy on his face as he volunteers. He feels that he gets more out of it than the people he is helping.” Bucalo also volunteers with The Soup Kitchen. He started this a few months ago and says that he is loving every minute of it. “Why not? It’s the right thing to do,” shares Bucalo. Giving back to the Grand Junction community is something that everyone throughout our office looks forward to — lending a helping hand when they can.

Sam Barnes has a lot to say about dedication and volunteering. “Volunteering is being a part of your community in a non-transactional way,” he shares. “It’s work being done to help others and not expecting anything in return. This is such a great way to break down barriers between people and to realize we are all a lot more alike than different. Volunteering builds compassion and can be done in so many different ways from coaching youth sports to building homes for Habitat or helping your neighbor.”

Minde Harper says she is extremely happy with her coworkers at Guild Mortgage. She doesn’t just notice how dedicated they are to their work and clients, but how much effort they put in helping out the community. Being heavily involved herself within the community, Harper volunteers her time with the Habitat for Humanity board and with Meals on Wheels. Whenever offered the opportunity to volunteer, she doesn’t hesitate to jump at the chance. Harper is the type of person who will continue to not only make sure her work family is thriving but also make sure that her community outside of work is getting the attention and resources they need. If Harper tells you she is going to complete or do something, you can always count on her. She is the epitome of our mantra, “actions speak louder than words.”

Dedication can be performed in many different ways and Spencer Frost takes dedication to an entirely new level. He served our country by being a part of the Army Reserve. He then brought that dedication into serving our community. He volunteers building homes for Habitat for Humanity and with The Discovery Garden.

At Guild Mortgage, James Call said he is “honored to work with a group of industry veterans who have dedicated themselves to helping others get into the house of their dreams, or utilizing the asset they have in homeownership, to achieve their dreams. Through the last two years, this dedication to finding the right loan for the client has been tested as loan programs, guidelines and investors changed the landscape in response to the COVID pandemic. Through this time our team never lost focus, and worked for their client's best interests, even when not doing the loan was the right choice. In a tight-knit community like Western Colorado, the dedication shines to all.”

“Here at Guild Mortgage, we want to be known as the business that devotes time to helping out our local community whenever we can,” says Slawson. “We are dedicated and take action when we say we will. We don’t just give the gift of home, we give the gift of perseverance, in and out of the office.”
