When you put go-karts with studded tires on a frozen lake and the checkered flag goes down, it’s about as close as most can get to living out a Mario Kart fantasy. Thanks to Aspen Ice Karting, a pop-up ice kart rental facility, this is something you can actually experience from Christmas to late February, weather permitting.

Located on Kodiak Ski Lake in the Roaring Fork Valley off of Highway 82, this winter activity is a must-do for adrenaline junkies looking for something new. It’s hard not to squeal with glee as you drift around corners and narrowly miss snowbanks in a high-pursuit chase of your worthy opponent.

Channel your inner Ricky Bobby as you hit speeds up to 45 to 50 mph. Full-face helmets, glove and goggles are provided, and it’s recommended to wear last season’s ski outfit in case you come across some chain lube, or don’t love the smell of gasoline lingering. Rates are $40 for 10 minutes, $75 for 20 minutes or take it to the next level and rent the track out for $1,000 per hour to have private access to all five karts.

Tips for the helpers on ice are always appreciated. For more information and to book your ride, visit aspenicekarting.com.
